Petition · past parliament

Name storms after England fast bowlers in this Cricket World Cup year.

Rejected 19 signatures

What the petition asks

If England win the Cricket World Cup this year, in England, the country could honour its cricketers by changing the naming convention for storms so that each storm is named after a great England fast bowler, past or present. For example, Archer, Bedser, through to Snow, etc.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We cannot accept petitions for which the Government or Parliament is not directly responsible.

The Met Office is responsible for the naming of storms, and takes suggestions from the public on which names to use. You can find more information, including how to suggest a name, on their website https://www.metoffice.gov.uk/weather/warnings-and-advice/uk-storm-centre/index
