Submit the terms of any future trade deal with the United States to a referendum

Closed 29 signatures

What the petition asks

The USA is our friend & ally but does many things differently to us. The power asymmetry between us in negotiations would be significant. A referendum would allow us to decide if the terms negotiated represent a reasonable return for any changes. This is not anti-USA - it is about giving us a say.
The USA's opening proposals for negotaitions can be found here: https://ustr.gov/sites/default/files/Summary_of_U.S.-UK_Negotiating_Objectives.pdf They would not get everything included here but it contains a number of proposals that could affect consumer rights, animal husbandry, our trade with other countries, private sector involvement in healthcare and more. Many of these would have a real impact on some core parts of our way of life.
