What the petition asks
When a victim contacts police to report your stolen vehicle there is no mention of any fee to gain your vehicle back should it be recovered. However once your vehicle is recovered to a compound there is a charge dependant on the type to get your property back. Victims should not be charged a fine!
Please change this rule to allow victims of vehicle theft the right to have their vehicle back either fee free or free for a period of 24/48 hours from first contact from police compound.
Claiming for the loss is not always possible via insurance and often causes victims to have their policy premiums increased on renewal, and those with Third party have no claim to loss at all. Young people are particularly affected already with higher insurance cost in the first instance.
Lets make this change.
