Prison sentences for anyone who abuses animals or puts this on social media
Rejected

What the petition asks
I want to start a government petition as I find it absolutely disgusting to see people on social media and other websites who abuse and kill animals. It is disturbing to know we have people who do this as this is another living creature.
Most of the videos and images I have seen on social media lately have been removed by Facebook and Instagram which is rightly so. But it doesn’t mean it has stopped.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can't accept your petition because sentencing is the responsibility of the courts, which are independent of the UK Government and Parliament. The law already allows the courts to give prison sentences in cases of animal cruelty.
You might like to sign this petition, which calls for the law to be changed so the courts can give longer sentences:
Pass the bill for increase sentences
for animal cruelty
