Use some of the overseas aid budget to fund the BBC
Rejected
12 signatures
What the petition asks
Due to the BBCs decision to revoke the over 75s free licence and the general unpopularity of the licence fee, some of the aid that goes overseas, much of which is squandered and unecessary, could be used to pay for the BBC.
The majority of British no longer wish to fund the BBC on an individual taxation basis via a licence fee.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
We can't accept your petition because we aren't sure what you would like the UK Government or Parliament to do. The overseas aid budget can't be used for domestic broadcasting.
You could start a new petition calling for the Government to abolish the licence fee, reduce the amount it spends on overseas aid and pay for the BBC out of direct taxation if that is something you would like to see happen.
