Compulsory Road Insurance and Tax for Cyclists.

Closed 66 signatures

What the petition asks

The government must legislate to bring cyclists in line with other public road users. Therefore, cyclists should pay for and take a competency test, be issued with a license, be issued with two registration numbered Hi-Vis jackets, be insured and pay road tax.
Following a recent number of dangerous cycling and a death involving a bicycle, cyclist deaths caused by lack of awareness and continuing reports in the media of cyclists contravening red lights and pedestrian crossings, we must bring cycles under control and bring in a regime of culpability. If you want to cycle on public roads you should behave by and be governed by the rules and regulations of the road and you should pay for that privilege, just as other road users have to.
