Stop subsidising fossil fuels

Rejected 13 signatures

What the petition asks

The UK government has declared a climate emergency but we still spend £10.5 billion a year subsidising fossil fuels. It makes them seem cheaper than they are.

In fact, solar and wind power are now cheaper than fossil fuels, so ending these subsidies will encourage people to do the right thing.
The WTO definition of subsidies, accepted by the UK and 163 other nations, includes “government revenue that is otherwise due, foregone or not collected” such as reduced VAT rates.
