Petition · past parliament

Enforce financially responsible parenting.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

When parents separate it is often the child who suffers due to the NRP refusing to financially support their child. This is particularly present with self-employed parents who can manipulate the current CMS system to their advantage. More often the resident parent receives no financial support.
I am currently owed almost £4000 in child maintenance arrears due to my ex being self employed. I have been chasing the payments owed to me for two years yet still nothing. Talking to other parents I am not alone in this matter

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand you're concerned about child maintenance payments, but we're not sure exactly what you mean by financially responsible parenting and we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do to change the current system.

You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.

We can't accept new petitions which call for the same action as an open petition. There's already a petition calling for stricter penalties for parents who do not make child maintenance payments, which you might like to sign. You're more likely to get action on this issue if you sign and share a single petition.

Set stricter penalties for parents that fail to pay child support
