What the petition asks
Currently employers can deny staff the ability to save with their credit union through a deduction from their payroll. This deters the employee from saving and denies credit unions the ability to efficiently collect savings. Evidence indicates payroll deduction costs nothing to provide.
The growth of credit unions in the UK is being hampered by employers that arbitrarily deny staff the ability to save with their credit union through a deduction from payroll. HMG has proved this service is cost neutral and has enabled the Armed Forces and DWP staff to save in this manner for some years. The most successful credit unions are those with payroll deduction schemes with employers.
