What the petition asks
The Amazon Rainforest has experienced extreme deforestation and wildfires as a results of the Brazilian governments drive to expand its agricultural sector. The current president Balsanoro has expressed his desire to carry on and even expand this policy.
Countries such as France and Ireland as well as supranational bodies like the EU have expressed their desire to persue similar punitive measures against Brazil. As a means of discouraging the Brazilian government from over exploiting the Amazon and causing irreversible damage.
The Amazon produces 20% of our breathable air and is an important ecosystem to trap and recycle CO2 emissions. It's of global importance that the Amazon is protected and preassure is put on the Brazilian government.
