Pass retrospective legislation that the UK did not leave the EU after all

What the petition asks

If there is no deal by the brexit deadline it may be possible for the UK parliament to retrospectively annul the Article 50 notification so that the UK can be regarded as never having left.

Parliament is sovereign, it can do what it likes. It can act retrospectively.

Professor Vernon Bogdanor told the BBC:

“The Parliament is sovereign, it can do what it likes. It can act retrospectively.

“Together with the EU, it could pass retrospective legislation extending the Brexit date deeming that the United Kingdom had not left the EU after all.

“It is legally possible. The EU would have to agree - and they probably would. They don’t want a no deal.”

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
