What the petition asks
Students are in the process of leaving home, some for their first time, with many residing at new accomodation, or changing it since previous years of study. Any election that is held before, or that clashes with the start of a new term, will inhibit their democratic right to register their vote.
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We understand you're concerned about students registering to vote but we're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. In particular, we're not sure how long you want a general election to be delayed to allow new students to register to vote.
You could start a new petition explaining clearly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do.
