Petition · past parliament

All politicians should declare any conflict of interest in the laws they pass.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Politicians have a great responsibility in making laws and decisions for our country. I believe that the politicians who have adverse interests in the decision they are making, should declare those interests and be barred from making that decision.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The House of Commons already has a Code of Conduct for MPs, who are required to register and declare their financial interests, so we're not sure what action you'd like to see.

You can find the Code of Conduct for the House of Commons here:

https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/standards-and-financial-interests/parliamentary-commissioner-for-standards/code-of-conduct-and-rules-of-the-house/

Complaints about breaches of the House of Commons Code of Conduct are investigated by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards, who is independent of Parliament and Government. You can find out more about the Commissioner and her role here:
