Free transport for all school children. Including sixth form

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

Our situation is not unique, the school bus in our village allows half the village to board (because they are outside the limit)
It costs around £600 per annum per pupil, This school bus is now stopped as it’s not viable? As it’s out of catchment.

This is our nearest school!
I know we are not unique in this, and it’s happening all over the country.
We need to consider;
The environment
safety and safeguarding of children Cost: unlike MPs we cannot vote on our salaries and have to work to tight budgets.
Lack of rural community support for education and roads are unsafe to walk or cycle.
Isolation, remove choice of Ed

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Bus fares are not set by the UK Government. Local bus operators (bus companies) are free to set their own fares. However, local transport authorities (usually local councils) have the power to set maximum fares in some circumstances.

If you would like bus fares in your local area to be lower, you could raise this with your local council. You can find out who your local councillor is here:
