Increase consumer rights protections on purchases of event and rail tickets

Rejected 18 signatures

What the petition asks

Currently event and rail tickets do not have the same levels of consumer protections as purchasing goods.

Consumers will often purchase tickets without realising they have no right to refund or exchange, with the exception of cancellation.
Consumers often buy tickets well in advance to make sure they don't miss out. Even if they change their mind months in advance, there is little scope for gaining refund.

Unlike other online purchases, there is no legal right to opt-out during a 14 day cooling off period or to gain a refund if a child has used details without permission.

Many services do not even offer human customer services to deal with issues, instead using automated bots. Greater protection for consumers is needed.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Petitions need to call on the UK Government or Parliament to take a specific action.

We understand that you'd like more protection for consumers who purchase rail or event tickets, but we're not sure exactly what protection you'd like to be introduced.

You could start a new petition asking for a mandatory 14 day cooling of period when buying rail or event tickets, if that's something you'd like to see happen.
