What the petition asks
I am a survivor of sexual violence. The perpetrator was sentenced to prison and the judge ordered him to sign the sex offenders register for 10 years. He has applied to be deported back to his home country.
I have since learned that sex offenders register only exist in English speaking countries and not worldwide.
He has requested to be deported back to Bulgaria once he has been released from prison, where he does not have to declare he is a sex offender and he won’t be monitored - as the sex offenders register does not exist. This is a big concern and the Government should work with all countries to adopt a sex offenders register to ensure that they are closely monitored wherever they are in the world. This would give survivors reassurance that perpetrators cannot escape their crimes by moving abroad.
