Review the Adoption Process

What the petition asks
In 2018, only 3,820 children were adopted, there are 93,000 children in care in the UK. 600,000 people would be interested to adopt if the process was improved. The adoption process needs to be more transparent, consistent, supportive and strengths based. It is overly risk adverse and inflexible.
The Government should review the current state of adoption in the UK to end the inconsistent, invasive, subjective and risk adverse process. The review should consider issues including:
- the unnecessary use of references from former partners
- alternative methods of assessment
- providing more training and counselling to help people through the process. At present there is no emotional support to applicants. 7 out of 8 are rejected and left heart broken.
