Introduce an immediate moratorium on airport expansion in the UK

What the petition asks
The IPCC report on climate change and the more recent IPCC report on the oceans describe increasing global warming due to carbon emissions and associated very significant risks.Aviation is a major and increasing part of carbon emissions and has grown extremely quickly over the last three decades.
Aviation is a very significant and increasing source of carbon emissions.Just counting the carbon emissions from jet fuel (i.e. not those embedded in construction or any other greenhouse gases) a return flight from London to New York produces 986 kg of CO2 per passenger. This is more than the entire carbon emissions from an average person in 56 countries.Given recent rapidly accelerating levels of climate change it is completely inappropriate to allow any further airport expansion at this time.
