What the petition asks
Extend regulations concerning balance and fairness when reporting on political issues during elections and referendums from TV news to all national and regional news organisations
The news media holds a unique place in our society holding both government and powerful organisations to account. It is therefore essential that their reporting is fair and balanced in all issues including politics, particularly during election and referendum campaigns.
As such we call for the rules regarding the neutrality of news media imposed on TV news during such periods to be extended to all national and regional news media

Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
Petitions need to call on the Government or Parliament to take a specific action.
We're not sure exactly what you'd like the Government or Parliament to do. Ofcom's broadcasting code requires impartiality and accuracy from broadcasters at all time, during an election the only changes are related to the levels of coverage given. You can find out more here - https://www.ofcom.org.uk/about-ofcom/latest/features-and-news/ofcom-role-election
You could start a new petition calling for regulation of all media for impartiality and accuracy, in line with the Broadcasting Code, if that's what you'd like to see happen.
