What the petition asks
We request the Government create legislation requiring a majority of 60% in future referendums in order for the referendum results to be implemented.
Referendums can and have been deeply divisive, we therefore request a redefinition of the success criteria for future referendums to exceed the 50+1 rule to 60%.
Examples of divisions created through the 50+1 rule would be the Scottish Independence referendum of 2014 and the "Brexit" referendum of 2016.
