Fund schools to provide GCSE textbooks free for all!

Closed 59 signatures

What the petition asks

People shouldn’t require to buy GCSE textbooks. Education is supposed to be free in the UK. The Government should fund schools to ensure that all GCSE textbooks are provided free of charge.
They are too expensive. Often £20 each. Student’s take 7-8 subjects on average. Is £160 an acceptable price for taking your GCSEs? It is not the choice of a teenager to take these exams.

Does the government believe it acceptable to make families have to choose between food or education? Students may fail GCSEs due to lack of textbooks. A person’s opportunities should not be lost due to a lack of money. This could be an enormous factor to the cycle of poverty. It is not a child’s choice to go through these stressful exams in the first place. Why put on extra stress? A bright 15 year old should not throw away their future because their mother doesn’t make enough money.
