What the petition asks
The government's response appears to be in contrast to regions controlling their outbreaks (e.g. Singapore) and against WHO guidance. There are concerns the Government's approach will involve allowing a large portion of the population to contract COVID-19.
The public should be able to see the models behind the decisions.
Transparency and openness are key components of communication during a pandemic, in order to maintain public trust.
The government asserts that it is following the best scientific advice. Given the magnitude of suffering that could occur, it is crucial that the models underlying the decision not to contain the epidemic be subject to independent scrutiny.
