Freeze rent payments during Coronavirus crisis

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Government to enact rules to freeze rent payments for the duration of the coronavirus. As self isolating or in an event where you are unable to attend work; statutory sick pay will not cover rents costs.
To prevent people from ending up homeless or in serious financial debt due to inability to attend work. This will encourage individuals to self isolate when needed rather than placing others at risk as they do not want to end up in a dire financial situation.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Suspending rent payments is a matter for individual landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament.

We have published a petition calling for the Government to implement Universal Basic Income to give home and food security during the coronavirus outbreak: Implement Universal Basic Income to give home & food security through Covid-19
