Lift the road closures in Bath to force the marathon to safely postpone.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Please lift all of the road closures, and rescind permissions for the Bath Half Marathon 2020 for tomorrow.
The Bath Half Marathon, at odds with the rest of the World is determined for thousands to gather in Bath tomorrow. Government refused a petition to close it down as it isn't their decision, but the road closures are!

The cancelled in 2018 for snow, but COVID-19 isn't considered reason enough?

Let's be sensible and keep our vulnerable safe by running it later in the year! The organisers have ignored thousands of plees to postpone. Now government needs to step in and protect the public.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The closure of local roads are a matter for individual local authorities, in this case Bath and North East Somerset Council.

Since the Bath Half Marathon took place the Government has extended its advice on avoiding unnecessary social contact to mass gatherings, and has said the Government will no longer support mass gatherings: https://www.gov.uk/government/speeches/pm-statement-on-coronavirus-16-march-2020
