What the petition asks
In the event the government implement a countrywide quarantine to stop the spread of COVID_19, for the government to cancel all water, gas and electricity payments and mortgage payments.
People are going to be using more of these services due to being unable to leave the house and there seems to be know real explanations of what might happen regarding being payed by work. People may not be able to afford these payments on the statutory sick pay should companies choose not to pay their staff whilst not in work.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Suspending payments for council tax, mortgages, utilities and loans is a matter for individual councils, mortgage providers, utility providers and lenders, and not the UK Government or Parliament.
