In the COVID19 pandemic open supermarkets 1st thing for the elderly & vulnerable

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

The government should organise supermarkets to support the needs of the elderly and vulnerable people in the community during the pandemic.
In the nights, supermarkets should be cleaned & restocked,. On first opening in the morning the elderly and other vulnerable people can safely shop for 1-2 h
I want the Government to contribute as quickly and as easily as possible to a more optimistic and positive culture of kindness that works both to protect older people and to allow younger people to contribute.

In this period of social isolation, the vulnerable group should remain able to get out of their houses, while not being exposed to high risks.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The opening arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to open early for elderly or vulnerable customers. You should contact your local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.

The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
