Give Chemotherapy Nurses Surgical Masks so Cancer patients don't get Covid-19.

Rejected 17 signatures

What the petition asks

Presently there's no requirement for Nurses to wear surgical masks when administrating life saving Chemotherapy Drugs as part of Cancer Treatment therapy. Cancer patients during treatment fall into the category of immunosuppressed and can self isolate but they cannot avoid a clinician's cough.
Coronavirus Covid-19 Global Pandemic is the greatest Public Health Crisis in living memory. As a society we have a duty of care to protect the most vulnerable. This includes the elderly, the sick and the families of these people. Persons with asymptomatic COVID-19 can spread the virus, therefore there is no assurance possible that Cancer patients are not being treated by a clinician with the virus when being administered intravenous Chemotherapy. Administration is inherently less than 2 meters.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions on the wearing of personal protective equipment (PPE) by doctors and nurses are a clinical matter for the NHS and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).

You may however wish to sign this petition which calls for increased funding for the NHS to help tackle coronavirus, including PPE: Provide an Emergency fund for Health & Social Care Providers due to COVID-19.

You may also wish to raise this matter with your local MP. If you don't know who your MP is, you can find their name and contact details by entering your post code here: https://www.parliament.uk/mps-lords-and-offices/mps/find-your-mp/.
