Coronavirus isolation: Postpone introduction of TV licence fee for those over 75

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

To ensure that the proposed introduction in June 2020 of the television licence fee for those aged over 75 is postponed until at least the coronavirus emergency is declared over.
With the need for elderly people to isolate from coronavirus for their protection, many will only have television for "company" and for essential information. The introduction of a licence fee for those 75 years of age and over will act as a disincentive to keep even that minimal level of contact with the outside world.

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Since you started this petition, the BBC have announced that the changes to TV licences for over 75s now won't happen until August: https://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/age?wt.mc_id=bbc_pr_o75_english

You may wish to sign this petition, if you would like this policy to be changed permanently: The Government should fund free TV licences for all over-75s.
