Government needs to increase the wages of retail/food employees due to Covid 19

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

Financial support to be offered to food and shop workers in the UK in order to keep this vital service operational
These people are putting their health at risk for minimum wage in order to provide vital services during covid 19 outbreak.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government sets National Minimum Wages, but these apply equally to all industries, and individual employers are responsible for deciding what to pay their staff, provided it meets legal requirements.

You could start a petition calling on the Government to create a fund to reward key workers who have continued to work during the coronavirus outbreak, if this is something you would like to see.
