Petition · past parliament

Officially close the hospitality industry, so businesses can claim on insurance.

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

The PM has asked people to avoid pubs, clubs, bars, theatres, and other social gatherings, but has not officially asked them to close. Because of this, they are unable to claim on insurance and will undoubtedly go out of business.
Not officially closing these businesses will mean they can’t claim on insurance and will not be able to survive the coming months. Thousands of companies will go bankrupt and hundreds of thousands of people will lose their jobs.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

Since this petition was created, the Government has announced that pubs, clubs and restaurants are to close. It has also asked everyone to stay at home. You can find out more here: https://www.gov.uk/coronavirus
