Mortgage relief to protect our economy, tennants & vunerable people
Rejected

What the petition asks
Look at providing a scheme which allows individual homeowners and landlords to obtain mortgage relief due to the impending economic down-turn caused by the Coronavirus.
In the event of a long period of social distancing and/or lock down the economy will suffer, people will inevitably lose their jobs and obtaining a new job will be extremely difficult. With no form of income mortgage and rent payments will not be met, homeowners will fall into mortgage arrears through no fault of their own. In the private rental sectors rents will be missed and we could end up with a large amount of the population being made homeless. Action needs to be taken.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Suspending payments for rent, council tax, mortgages and utilities is a matter for individual landlords, councils, mortgage providers and utility providers, and not the UK Government or Parliament.
