What the petition asks
There is evidence to suggest that genetic disorders are a particular risk in communities where there are marriages among close relatives.
When booking a civil wedding ceremony the registry office should have the powers to ask for independent DNA and medical evidence to certify that both parties are not related. If it is found by that they are closely related then no civil ceremony should legally take place.
