Pay healthcare students on placement during the Covid-19 pandemic

Rejected 16 signatures

What the petition asks

Healthcare students helping to support the NHS should be paid for the time they spend on placement during the Covid-19 pandemic. They are putting themselves at risk whilst on placement.
Healthcare students work full-time whilst on placement for free. During this pandemic, they are a vital workforce needed to support the NHS. Many of these students also work in nursing homes, caring in the community, or work with other vulnerable groups. Due to the risk of infection whilst on placement, some will not be allowed to work part-time in these places to pay their bills. Students are not eligible for benefits, and many do not earn enough money to be eligible for statutory sick pay.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Student placements are a matter for the educational institutions the student is enrolled in, the organisation sponsoring the placement, and the regulatory bodies that are responsible for the qualifications, not the Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about continuing with a placement you should raise these with the educational institution you are enrolled in, the organisation sponsoring your placement, and the relevant regulatory body.
