Reserve Shopping Deliveries for NHS, Key Workers and the Vulnerable.

What the petition asks
Ensure the supermarkets give priority to essential food items and regular delivery slots for the above groups.
To ensure we are doing all we can to protect the vulnerable and support the individuals who we will all be reliant on throughout the Coronavirus outbreak. My sister is a nurse, lives with her husband, 4 year old daughter and my elderly father who is recovering from mouth cancer. A lady living on my road is a community nurse and single mum. People like my sister and neighbour need to be able to do a quick weekly shop and know they will get all the items they need to feed themselves and family.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
The opening and delivery arrangements for supermarkets are a matter for individual retailers, not the Government or Parliament. A number of retailers have announced plans to prioritise elderly or vulnerable customers, and NHS workers. Customers should contact their local supermarket to find out if they have put such arrangements in place.
The Government has made certain changes to enable supermarkets to work together during the coronavirus outbreak, particularly to serve customers who are elderly, ill or vulnerable: https://www.gov.uk/government/news/supermarkets-to-join-forces-to-feed-the-nation
We have published a petition calling on the Government to supply NHS key frontline staff working during Covid-19 healthy food hampers, which you might like to sign: Supply NHS key frontline staff working during Covid-19 healthy food hampers
