Petition · past parliament

Only one parent has to be a key worker for their child to remain in school.

Rejected 11 signatures

What the petition asks

To change the current plan from both parents having to be key workers in order of their child to stay in school to one parent being a key worker.
In this pandemic crisis it is vital that all key workers are available to go to work and care for others. With it currently stating that both parents need to be key workers in order for their child to be in school, their will be less key workers available to be on the front line.

Why it was rejected

It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.

The guidance issued to schools on maintaining educational provision does not specify that both parents must be key workers, but that if it is at all possible for children to be at home, then they must be. If a key worker cannot keep their child safe at home then their children will be prioritised for education provision.
