MPs to donate their 2020 pay rise to support people affected by Covid-19
Rejected
10 signatures
What the petition asks
MPs are to receive an above inflation pay rise of 3.1% bringing their salaries to almost £82000. MPs have no role in voting on their pay rises but they can decide on what to do with the money. I petition them to donate it to food banks in their constituency to support people affected by covid-19.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
This is a matter for individual MPs rather than for the Government or Parliament to decide.
Your petition notes that requiring all MPs not to take a pay increase would be a matter for the Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA). IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
