What the petition asks

The government to open up the 80% wage top up during corona virus outbreak to the self employed.

The government are offering to help employees by allowing businesses to apply for grants to pay up to 80% of wages but self employed can only get statutory sick pay. The millions of self employed cannot survive on this - they need wage top ups as well! Company’s have stopped employing staff to save on pensions etc and now these people will suffer in this crisis - where is the help for them and their families!?

Why it was rejected

The UK Government or Parliament was already taking the action it asked for.

Since this petition was started, the Government has said that most self-employed people can claim a taxable grant worth 80% of their trading profits up to a maximum of £2,500 per month for the next 3 months.
