Remove Student Halls Rent During Corona Virus Pandemic

What the petition asks
Whilst the COVID-19 virus has forced university students back to their families and homes, they are still paying the extremely high costs of rent for somewhere they aren't staying.
Students and families are under under high financial stress during this challenging time and paying for accomodation for somewhere they aren't staying and attaining an unnecessary debt applies more pressure on them. Since this impending lockdown will likely last until after the end of these contracts, it is simply unfair to continue to pay these fees.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
Suspending payments or providing refunds for tuition fees and rent are a matter for individual universities and landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament.
