Suspend Future University Assessments for 2020 amid the Coronavirus Pandemic

Rejected 12 signatures

What the petition asks

This academic year has seen unprecedented changes due the COVID-19 pandemic we are currently suffering from. We want all universities across the country to suspend academic assessments for Term 3 (Easter-Summer), so we are all on an even playing field (as some universities already have done so).
University assessments should be suspended due to the fact that students are not getting access to vital resources needed to work at their best. We don't believe it's ethical that we have to continue to hit multiple deadlines as normal & have online exams despite having lost jobs, little guidance and personal worries.
GCSE's & A Levels have been cancelled, so we believe degree students should have the same leniency given to them, OR a middle ground met to reduce stress in an already hard time.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Decisions about university teaching, assessments and exams are a matter for individual universities, and decisions about university admissions are a matter for individual universities and UCAS, not the UK Government or Parliament.

If you have concerns about admissions you should raise these with UCAS, and if you have concerns about your university's arrangements for teaching and assessment you should raise these with your university or the Office for Students, which regulates the higher education sector.

We understand that the current situation is stressful for many people, including students. Student Minds, a mental health charity for students, is collating guidance and developing resources to support students experiencing stress as a result of the current situation, which you may find useful: https://www.studentminds.org.uk/coronavirus.html
