What the petition asks

Everyday, millions of Britons continue to go to work to keep our country running. From NHS staff, to delivery drivers and supermarket staff, without these incredible selfless people, many more would suffer.

The government has previously called these people 'low-skilled' workers and to prove to the nation that they see how vital they are, they should create a day to commend their hard work.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We understand that you want the Government to acknowledge the role of the NHS, but it's not clear exactly what you want the Government to do. The Government is not responsible for designating "national days".

We have started a petition calling on the Government to create a new Bank Holiday in to thank those who helped during the Covid-19 crisis, which you might like to sign: Create a new Bank Holiday in recognition of the NHS and all its amazing workers.
