Excuse UK university students from their last rent payment for accommodations

Rejected 21 signatures

What the petition asks

We want the Government to enforce that students will be exempted from paying student their last rent instalments due to Covid-19.
Due to Covid-19, universities have been cancelled and most students have been advised to go home during these uncertain times. However, private student accommodations companies like CRM Students and their landlords still expect students to pay even though they have left. Many students have part time jobs to pay part of their rent and due to the Coronavirus they are unable to work making this very hard to pay. Some accommodations have already pardoned students but others haven't.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

Suspending payments for rent is a matter for individual landlords, and not the UK Government or Parliament.

The Government has published an FAQ for university students on Covid-19, which includes advice on accommodation costs: https://dfemedia.blog.gov.uk/2020/04/09/university-students-covid19-faq/
