What the petition asks
Our care professionals have not been provided with adequate personal protective equipment (PPE). As a result some have been infected with COVID-19 and have died. These were and are preventable deaths. For households on low income the money will ease an already difficult situation.
The households of some care professionals will be on a low income but are not eligible for Funeral Expenses Payment (FEP) The average cost of a funeral in the UK is nearly £4000. In the financial year 2018, the average FEP was £1372. Many people have been turning to public fundraising to cover costs in a situation that is called funeral poverty. The government must ease the financial pressure households will face when a loved one dies.
