Petition · past parliament

Stop £10,000 office allowance for MPs and give the money to food banks instead.

Rejected 14 signatures

What the petition asks

An additional £10,000 for MPs to work from is unacceptable as they can already claim up to £26,000 on office expenses. Instead the total lump sum should be given as a donation from Government to food banks across the UK
Because a £36,000 allowance per MP for Office supplies is disgusting when there are guaranteed to be people within almost every constituency who are struggling more than ever to make ends meet and get food for their families.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We can't accept your petition because the UK Government and Parliament aren't responsible for MPs' pay. The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) is responsible for deciding on MPs' expenses and pay and expenses. IPSA is independent of both Parliament and Government.
