Increase the UC savings limit of £16,000 so more families with savings can claim
Rejected
13 signatures
What the petition asks
Under current rules families with savings in excess of £16,000 are unable to access Universal Credit, in addition, families with savings of £6000-£16000 have their financial support reduced. Increase or scrap these restrictions during the coronavirus pandemic to allow more families to access support
A think tank has warned people's 'hard-earned savings' might be significantly reduced amid the pandemic. The Resolution Foundation is calling for the savings and capital threshold to be updated "so it doesn't unfairly penalise those with savings", and leave families having to live off their nest egg that might have been intended for a first house deposit, see: https://www.resolutionfoundation.org/publications/no-work-no-pay/
