Petition · past parliament

Please impose a legal freeze on the 6% interest levied against student debtors.

What the petition asks

Respectfully, Right Honorable Members and Peers of the Houses of Parliament:

Please impose a statutory moratorium on the accrual of interest on billions of student debt. Many low-income students are of course effectively deprived of the opportunity to service their debts.
Respectfully, it seems incongruous that compassion is not being shown to students.

Indeed, thanks to the Chancellor's dexterous efforts, mortgage consumers are being provided with holidays. Residential tenants are being protected by a moratorium on evictions. There is capacity for support.

The political persuasions of students aside, please would the Government exercise compassion for the less vocal?

My sincere thanks for giving consideration to this campaign.
