What the petition asks
All members of the NHS at all levels from consultants to cleaners should be suitably recognised for their heroic efforts in combatting the corona virus. The George Cross could proudly be shared by all without singling out individuals.as was the case with Malta GC in 1943.
The George Cross was awarded to Malta in 1943 for heroism and devotion in the face of the enemy .
Our NHS has shown great courage ,devotion, perseverance and sacrifice in the face of a dangerous and hidden enemy,covid-19 ,equal to that of Malta.

Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible for.
There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
