Petition · past parliament
Include ethical veganism on the 2021 census.

What the petition asks
Given that ethical veganism has now been confirmed as a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010, its numbers should be monitored by the Office for National Statistics and therefore the census.
In addition to the importance of gathering data in order to protect people from discrimination, it is essential that citizens be given the opportunity to express their deeply held philosophical positions not only within the parameters of religion or lack thereof.
Why it was rejected
It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.
We can only accept petitions about things that the UK Government or the House of Commons are responsible for. The Office for National Statistics, not the UK Parliament or Government, is responsible for developing census questions.
