Buy UK made ventilators with UK made parts
Rejected
21 signatures
What the petition asks
The UK Government has launched an initiative, the Ventilator Challenge, to support the NHS during COVID 19 pandemic. The challenge should be include the build of ventilators by UK companies using UK manufactured parts as a priority
This would be an excellent way to support UK businesses by allowing them to continue to manufacture, trade and keep the economy going. A much better solution than business loans and furloughing staff. The ventilators currently being built use a large amount of EU, US and even Chinese components and products at a time that UK industry needs its Government's support!!
Why it was rejected
It was not clear what the petition asked the UK Government or Parliament to do.
While the UK is in the transition period following it's departure from the EU, as defined in the EU Withdrawal Act, it remains bound by EU procurement laws. These laws do not allow member states to discriminate in terms of where they procure supplies, services and works for the public sector.
