What the petition asks

To recognise the NHS are at the front-line of the pandemic battle against Covid-19 devastating the country, taking thousands of lives & impacting on our way of life.

For acts of the greatest dedication, heroism, courage & sacrifices in circumstances of extreme danger in the fight against Covid-19

The British People accept the NHS are at the front-line against the Pandemic with a devotion to duty that goes far beyond the call of duty at a time of immense pressure, challenges and personal and professional sacrifices.

They have suffered heavily in protecting the communities of the UK with loss of life in the line of duty & thousands more continually facing the same risks & the personal trauma of witnessing the great loss of life.

Award the George Cross on behalf of the British people.

Why it was rejected

It asked for something that is not the responsibility of the UK Government or Parliament.

We cannot accept petitions that call for specific awards or honours, such as the George Cross, to be given to individuals or organisations, because we can only accept petitions about matters for which the Government or Parliament are responsible for.

There is an independent process for considering nominations for awards and honours, including the George Cross, and advising the Queen on granting these, so it is not something the Government or Parliament can do.
