Create a Citizens' Assembly for the Future

Closed 599 signatures

What the petition asks

We call on the Government to create a UK Citizens’ Assembly for the Future, selected at random from the adult population. This body would focus on medium to long-term issues like pandemic planning and the low carbon transition.
The Citizens’ Assembly would be given powers to present three bills per session. These bills should be subject to free votes.

This proposal is a core demand of "Krisis: a Manifesto for the Future" which has been published in full at theunfinishedrevolution.net (with a shorter version in The Observer Letters 24/05/20) and signed by 45 prominent academics, lawyers, writers and activists.

Only Parliament could establish such a body.
